United Machine Works is looking for a motivated and experienced Quality Control (QC) Inspector to join our team immediately. Full time position, 2nd shift, pay depending on experience. This position tests and inspects products at various stages of production process and compiles and evaluates statistical data to determine and maintain quality and reliability of products by performing the following duties.
Essential Functions:
- Prepares labor card(s), job ticket(s), and other reports, forms, records, and related paperwork for assigned area.
- Ensures that product output meets established quality policy.
- Ensures established productivity standards are obtained.
- Interacts with other employees in a polite, courteous, and productive manner.
- Responsible for adhering to established “Work Rules.”
- Responsible for maintaining a neat, clean, and orderly work area.
- Responsible for observing all Good Manufacturing Practices and safety practices ensuring all machine guards and other safety equipment or devices are in place and in good working order before and during operation.
- Ensure all personal protection equipment is monitored and used at all times.
- Interprets engineering drawings, schematic diagrams, or formulas and confers with management or engineering staff to determine quality and reliability standards.
- Selects products for tests at specified stages in the production process, and tests products for a variety of qualities such as dimensions, performance, and mechanical, electrical, or chemical characteristics.
- Records test data, applying statistical quality control procedures.
- Evaluates data and writes reports to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards.
- Recommends modifications of existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality within limits of equipment capability.
- Sets up and performs destructive and nondestructive tests on materials, parts, or products to measure performance, life, or material characteristics.
- Prepares graphs or charts of data or enters data into computer for analysis.
- Any other duties of a similar or lesser nature as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree in a related field.
- Certification in quality control is preferred.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar role.
- Strong understanding of quality control standards and testing techniques.

- Knowledge of ERP systems, preferably Microsoft NAV.

United Machine Works is looking for a motivated and experienced CNC Lathe Machinist to join our team immediately. Full time position, 1st shift, pay depending on experience. This position operates, produces, and repairs precision parts and instruments by programming or editing programs, setting up, and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) lathe machine. Maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies; applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mechanics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
Essential Functions:
- Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
- Programs lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs.
- Sets-up lathes by installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; indicating vices; trimming heads.
- Loads feed mechanism by lifting stock into position.
- Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces; adhering to international standards.
- Performs precision machining operations.
- Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
- Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
- Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
- Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
- Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
- Accomplishes organizational goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
- Keeps Machine and workplace clean and neat.
- Maintains data sheets and part traceability.
- Maintains acceptable attendance record.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certificate in Machine Shop Technology or Machine Tool Technology/Machinist.
- Two to three years related experience and/or training in mechanical assembly is preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Fanuc Control experience.
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a team-oriented environment so that you get along with customers, clients, co-workers, and management.
- Continue to grow lean knowledge and use the tools to identify and assist with continuous process improvement.
- Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.
